If you are having trouble with getting your avatar to show I have been dealing with the same issues in regards to avatars I wish to use. The only solution I've come across thus far is to try and upload the avatar using a site like photobucket and linking it in your avatar preferences section (since they give you the option of using an avatar from a link. This is all I have as a solution for now and I am sorry, but this is an issue a bit out of my hands.
