Should Guests Be Allowed to...

Should we allow our Guests to be able to not only read sections that are considered "General" or "Overall" sections, but also allow them to be able to create new topics like normal members and be able to reply to said topics they created? Or are those sections, even still, far too personal to allow them to view? What say you members?!

i'd rather not cast an actual vote somuch as give my opinion on how these decisions may turn out.

if we allow them to post then we open ourselves up to learning their side of the story, at the risk of being bashed, flamed, or bothered with attempts to convert us from our "evil ways". if we only let them view than we might come across as closed minded, just leaving our beliefs there for anyone to see but not letting just anyone say anything about it.

quit efrankly i prefer the idea of this place being kept as it is, only letting others read it. i feel like the reason this place feels so comfortable is teh mellow, relaxed, chille dout atmosphere, an dthe sound of nobody fighting.

You definitely make a good point. However if we also allowed them to view the topics we typically like to chat and post about it could also inevitably do good things...such as bring in more members. So there is good and bad to this scenario.

That was the kind of atmosphere I wanted to create when I made this place. But as I've stated I think before, I'm just afraid if things didn't pick up I'd have to start posting and spamming us all over the place which isn't entirely what I want to do.

Well we are small to begin with and most of our humble beginning members were through invitation of my own design so perhaps...the real reason why you like this place isn't just because it is smaller from the guild on Gaia, but because we will hit a wider age range of views, opinions, ideas, etc. Perhaps it is also they slightly different environment as well.

i dont care either way... they should see i think, but we need a way to limit posting incase we get the /b/tard people... my original home was invaded by such idiocracy from them....

as long as posting requires them being registered, and you have to ok them, and can ban them at any time, i see no problems with letting them speak.

it would make sense that they could just sign up if they want to post? it realy isn't that difficult...

My opinion is, if they see what we like to post and chat about, it may bring in more interested like-minded people. Granted I don't doubt it will bring Trollers and Fakers alike, but even still it would be a start. Not to mention I'd keep my eyes peeled. And if we did allow them to post in those topics and they did post stupid stuff it can just go into our 'Trash Bin' and they would be doing us a favor of providing us with example topics of what we don't want around here.

I don't think the system works so simply though. I do believe that if they try to post because they can at least view that yes, it would automatically require them to log in. If we give them posting rights though...it won't ask for a login, but merely a possible handle and stuff and then allow for their post to be made.

No; and it would possibly, hopefully, discourage those who would rather troll and flame us for fun, because then they have to go through the whole registration process. Though I wish registration was more efficient. I would like to be able to add a little comment box that says, "Why do you want to join our forum" and make it required to fill out so I can get a better feel for people applying for the boards. Though I also feel that may even be a discouraging factor as well, but Gaiaonline has it for their guild system so I don't see how using it for a forum would be anymore harmful to try.

i say go ahead and add that question then. it would be fine.

*shakes her head* Not to simple. I am not one of the programmers and I'm not sure how to even go about trying to include a box that would send me that kind of feedback to my e-mail for me to review. Otherwise I'd be totally all over it already.

So as you can see there is some minor issues.
