True Faith vs. Blind Faith Empty
PostSubject: True Faith vs. Blind Faith   True Faith vs. Blind Faith EmptyWed May 21, 2008 6:51 am

Now you can argue up and down how there is no difference between this ideal I've created, but I ask that anyone who reads this topic to humor me all the same. This is my own belief and I ask that you respect that and at least respond to it in a mature fashion with your own ideas and feelings, even if I will not agree. But I ask that you don't simply attack to attack because you feel I am wrong. I am asking you to think critically and to share your own thoughts and feelings logically, clearly, and without malice, sarcasm, or otherwise. Thank you!

I didn't fully understand what "True Faith" was until I found the Goddess or rather she found me. When I was young my father attempted to raise me Christian however unfortunately for him I saw too many flaws in the religion and questioned the system often. Later in life it seemed I finally understand what he was trying to show me which was the meaning of what 'Faith' or rather "True Faith" is.

My own understanding of what "True Faith" is as follows. It is not something you can so easily describe in any language. One feels they know so much more on a completely different level. It's about listening to the "Higherself/Greater Good" that we are all capable of being in tune to. It's that feeling that you know what you follow you definitely belong to (the hand to the glove analogy if you will). It's about knowing you are most definitely a part of something greater then just ourselves. It's about feeling that underlying connection to the ebb and flow of life. It's about believing in something that you love and not being forced into believing in it. It is about accepting others for who they are and what they believe, tolerance. It is about being open-minded.

What follows is my belief as to what "Blind Faith" is: Those who follow a religion or spiritual path out of fear or habit. They are those who think they understand the part they play in the "Great Divine" plan, but really don't know what they are even talking about, least they don't fully comprehend it. They act, talk, think, and feel much like cookies made from a cookie cutter (basically they act like carbon-copies of one another, hence the cookie analogy). "Blind Faith" are those few individuals who are introduced to religion as a means for "coping" with former addictions to drugs, alcohol, or otherwise and use religion as a means for a direction for their "addictive" habits, often times leading to them pressing or preassuring their own beliefs on others and quite possibly to other dangerous if not fatal habits. They never question what is put before them, they simply accept everything at face-value. As new information arises it is not implemented into these individuals beliefs so they can adapt, grow, and change (essentially they do not adjust for modern advances in information that simply enhance the way we view things). However while not all information could be contrary to the belief system and very well support that also may not make a great deal of difference. These individuals believe what they will and often times are stubborn about changing their ways. They are often times intolerant and close-minded. It may feel like your talking to a brick wall in some cases because they feel inmovable like a mountain. In a way they are "The Frozen Chosen," unyielding and unchanging, stubborn to stay the same as they always have.

Both of these ideas relate back to a quote I've read at least once or twice in my life thus far that sums up what both concepts very well in such a few short words. "For many are called, but few are chosen" - Matthew 22:14 ver. New American Standard.

So what are some of your own beliefs on what "True Faith" is vs."Blind Faith" if any at all?

True Faith vs. Blind Faith Empty

I see true faith as believing in something, not because you're forced to or because it's expected, but because you cannot find it in yourself to fully deny it. You question your beliefs, but always come to the conclusion that it either suits you or must be true. However, it also includes modifying or even changing your beliefs based on more recent "data" or how your views change.

Blind faith is taking something for the absolute truth without ever questioning why. You don't explore the possibilities or leave room to modify your beliefs as you discover more things and your views change. You just accept it, because you accept it, because you accept it. Circular reasoning is rampant in blind faith, simply because someone who believes in this way refuses to look into outside sources to explain their beliefs, or even for supporting their beliefs. "Grass is green because it was made that way" doesn't take into account chlorophyll or the process of photosynthesis. Sure, that's a little extreme and is certainly not an argument anyone would likely use now, but it is how many people choose to dismiss things.

In short, the only difference between true faith and blind faith is one's willingness to search for evidence or an explanation, and being able to accept their findings for what they are, whether or not they prove some beliefs invalid or simply misinformed.
