| Whoo-ha! I finally made it to 500 posts! I feel proud! ^_^ Then again I have created nearly all the topics on here to try and spur some form of activity. I sometimes wish I could see other ranks for myself, but eh I'm the Admin and they need people to know I'm the head honcho around here I guess. Ah well, still 500 is more than I've gotten on other forums (with the exception of Gaiaonline). | |

| Well I have no problems being called either. Some folks might get confused, but I was afraid if I put Guinevere or especially, "Lady Guinevere" people would think I was speaking of Artherian legends Guinevere. *wrinkles her nose* I'm sorry but I want no correlation between me and her. | |

| Not exactly but she is not a hero or anything of mine, nor does my name properly come from here, hence I made the differences clear. | |

tee-hee we shall see my friend we shall see. We could probably use your mind in the magic section to be sure. D & D main not be what we call a realistic basis, but it does lay some basic ground-work of understanding on spells. Plus we could speculate I suppose how in D & D they would go about possibly casting those spells (what forces they would summon, etc, etc). lol It might be a tad humorous and at the same time possibly interesting.

| I actually have found the same here and there, but more specifically my forte seems to be elemental spells. I still gotta work on my understanding of Wind a bit. | |

| well, D&D does take quite alot from actual mythology and religion... though in any case it is also often full of the more rediculous things like animal parts used for spell components... i guess it would be interesting to say, look at these spells and then research just how historically acurate they are? | |

| Some cultures still do use animal parts in their spells/rituals, parts of Africa I know do and some other countries not as overly developed as the United States (Europe, Japan, etc). I believe if I remember correctly Voodoo or was it Hoodoo uses animal parts? | |

| hehehheh... well, something in me told me there was probably an actual honest belief by some spiritualists that different animal parts had some kind of important part to play in magic work... but wasn't that animal part stuff just part of a witches' brew type hoax to frighten those who didn't understand? i thought voodoun and hoodoo were all pretty much just about invoking Loa and making curses and blessings through pacts with demons and gods? | |

| Apparently some people believed that certain body parts did represent certain events, etc. It was a source of divination at one time.
With the Witches brew stuff, some people speculate that witches used animal body part names for parts of recipes to yes confuse people and I believe to keep recipes secret. In a way it was the scientific way of naming ingrediants of its time so that normal people could not understand what it was and feel revolted by the names possibly as well.
As for Hoodoo and/or Voodoo (whichever one uses animal parts the the like) they still use such even today as I said. Those who live in countries such as ours however may do as we do and use alternative sacrifices/etc. I was under the impression Voodoo is more about packing packs with demons/etc. I don't know much about either I just know Hoodoo is what is considered the good magic vs. Voodoo which is supposedly bad.

| huh... i dunno enough about it. i thought those were just variations or barbarations of the origional name...it was suppose dto be a survival of indigenous magical practice brought from africa to the americas. | |

| Twi, you have to understand even the Romans practiced animal sacrifices and the like and that is considered typically a form of magic. If we go off that basis of thought then you can understand that African cultures do practice similar things, many countries still do in fact. Going off of what we know I'm very confident and certain we can say there are still those who practice at least maybe "Voodoo" who use animal parts or otherwise in their rituals.
