This is my very first Romance novel. I've never been fond of Romance novels because I've always seen the style as a trashy sort of form of writing. Basically, Romance novels are not where you want to display or show off your great skill as a writer. I had a revelation! I thought if I read the genre I don't like it could potentially benefit my own writing (How I want to write vs. How I don't want to write).
A romance novel I had thought about reading was "The Immortal Highlander". I read it over the course of 2 days (one of those days I only got 4 hours of sleep. I was THAT determined to ensure my success of learning). Overall, it was a decent book but it had the fan-service as usual which is typical and I don't expect to change for Romance stories (although it would be nice to have a change of pace). However, the story hit kind of close to home. I literally could relate to the main female Gabby. I think I would have done all the things she did in the beginning to Adam (ye-ah another thing that irked me was the fact she used such a stereotypical common modern name). But as things progressed I could see myself more and more in Gabbys position. Another point of why it hit home was the fact I have a thing for the historical tid-bits on the Tuatha De Danann. Considering their geographical origin they do hold a special place in my soul, if you will. Overall the book wasn't half bad but I think the author could have done with less "Ands" this and "Ands" that. She also had a tendancy of going overboard with the general description of Adam (shamelessly plugged that body of his any chance she could get) and Gabbys internal monologues (on and on and on, get over yourself! Wake up! GAH!) lol XD
I did see somethings that opened me up to my kind of ideal guy but I wiped all senses of the "White Knight" out of my head long ago for the sake of not wanting to be disappointed in our world of "Reality".
Again, wasn't too bad 4/5.
